Since 1993,
the West Virginia Fossil Club based in Clarksburg, West Virginia has encouraged West
Virginians to share in the excitement of fossils and fossil collecting.
WVFC meets the first Friday of every month from March through November at the Oldies Diner/T&L Hot Dogs on the old Bridgeport Hill Road in Clarksburg, WV.
**Beginning October 2011 our meeting location will change to Eat 'n Park, 400 Tolley Drive in Bridgeport, WV.
In December we have our annual Christmas party at a chosen venue- there are no meetings or outings in January or February. Meetings start at 7:00 PM and usually last for about two hours. The monthly meetings sometimes feature a trained paleontologist or geologist and are always fun and educational. More often than not, members proudly show off their newest fossils or rocks and talk about West Virginia's natural history.
Every month (weather permitting), WVFC organizes a fossil
dig for registered club members. While most outings are to locations in West Virginia, at
least once or twice a year the club travels out of state in search of fossils. Usually,
fossil expeditions are day trips and members bring a picnic lunch. These outings are great
way to grow your personal fossil collection and learn more about the state's geological
history.

Members will receive a digital monthly newsletter in PDF or may request a paper newsletter and may participate in the fossil outings. The membership year begins September 1. Anyone who is joining the club for the first time after February 1st pay for a half year membership.

If you have a private fossil collection, you quite possibly
possess significant fossils with important scientific value for West Virginia
paleontology. You can now have these fossils examined and cataloged and receive a free one
year subscription to PaleoScene, a newsletter devoted to fossils and paleontology
in West Virginia (to begin publication later this year). The West Virginia Fossil
Archives is compiling an inventory and index of West Virginia fossils and needs the
help of collectors such as you. Please call 1-800-822-6788 and ask for Ray Garton or send
email to museum@geosrv.wvnet.edu.
